Careers Evening Thursday 9th November 5 pm – 7 pm
We will be hosting a careers evening at the Academy in November with an array of delegates who will be there to offer advice to our students about Post 16 choices and the next steps following their final exams at secondary school.
Our aim is provide high quality, independent careers guidance for all year groups, the evening will provide substantial guidance and information from various sectors as well as the opportunity for extra curricular activities such as volunteer work with the St Elizabeth Hospice or enquire about joining the local Army Cadets.
Representatives from the following have confirmed they will be attending:
Opportunity to contribute to the Alde Valley Sixth Form Consultation
Work related learning can and does mean different things to different people. This just goes to show how wide a subject it is. Here at Alde Valley Academy we see it as anything that relates to the world of work and employability skills and below are some examples of what we do.
The most visible WRL activity is work experience which happens in Year 10. Students all have the opportunity to apply for a placement with local business giving them an opportunity to really experience ‘the world of work’ and to develop employability skills, such as team work, communication, time keeping etc. Students that do not attend a placement will still be given the opportunity to develop these skills but in school through some specifically designed workshops.
But we have many other opportunities for students throughout the year and their school life. WRL and Employer Engagement are seen as vital to the development of our students and their ability to continue into meaningful employment in the future.
