Young Enterprise Success for Alde Valley Academy

Young Enterprise at Alde Valley

Last October we launched the Young Enterprise Scheme with Year 10 at Alde Valley. On Thursday 19th April all the hard work that Joseph and Adam had done was presented at the regional final at University of Suffolk. Joseph and Adam started off their entrepreneurial journey by looking at ways to raise enough money to develop their ideas. To raise this money they started with a cake sale, which funded their initial product of natural wood Christmas decorations. After Christmas, the boys decided to organise and run a school talent show and from their profits they donated £215 to Sports Relief. The money from all the fundraising efforts resulted in Joseph and Adam being able to finally develop the unique product they had been aiming to complete. So with only two weeks until the Young Enterprise final they worked tirelessly at break times, lunchtimes, after school and during the school holidays on developing a working prototype of their design. The boys were then able to showcase their prototype and receive their initial consumer feedback. The final of Young Enterprise was an amazing experience for the boys as they had so much interest in their product. They had offers of sponsorship, advice on how to develop their product further and get it to the marketplace and the University of Suffolk also offered the boys the opportunity to use their facilities. The judges were incredibly impressed with the boys work they received 3 awards- Innovation and Entrepreneurship skills, Skills and Understanding, and Overcoming Adversity/ Problem Solving. Joseph and Adam are so determined to get their prototype to market that they have already started on the next part of their business journey.
